Director Fiji Arts Council
The Fiji Arts Council (FAC) is inviting applications for the position of ‘Director’. The Director must have the ability to support the Fiji Arts Council and the arts community in Fiji with passion and be able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with diverse communities, individuals and stakeholders in arts sector. The incumbent will contribute towards the advancement of the creative/cultural industries in Fiji.
The FAC is a national institution responsible for the promotion of the different genres of the art and for the provision to support professional/ technical development of artists. The Director, is therefore a relationship-builder who promotes organization awareness, maintains a high professional profile and is able to harness financial and cultural resources in line with the mandate of the Council. The Director takes the lead role in the development of a long-term vision and strategy for the organization, and must have the capacity to guide the organization through its work, ensuring that the best business practices meet world-class artistic quality. The Director reports to the Board of the Fiji Arts Council to which he/she provides management and revenue development updates as well as work plan performances. The Director is also required to advise the Board from time to time on the development and implementation of policies that will lead to the strategic development of the arts sector in Fiji.
The key responsibilities of the Director, amongst other things, include providing:
- Support for the Council and its sub-committees and task forces,
- Strategic and operational planning,
- Financial management, accounting and reporting,
- Arts programs management and development,
- Marketing and promotion of the Council’s programs, locally and overseas,
- Assistance to the Council in securing funds and sponsorships,
- Support the implementation of government-initiated programs and activities on the Arts sector through the advice of the Department of Heritage and Arts.
We are looking for a dynamic person with a vision for Arts in Fiji who can promote the Arts Industry and give it the visibility and co-ordinate the development of the industry.
The applicant must have excellent speaking and written communication skills in English and in at least one of the local Vernacular Languages; a Degree in Arts and Management or equivalent is desirable, Civil Society Management or related field with at least a minimum of 5 years of professional arts management experience in national, regional or international arts organizations.
This is 3-year contractual appointment on the salary band equivalent to Government Salary Band H $34,760.31 – $44,564.50.
